Maja Lalić, Architect

Maja Lalic is an architect, expert on gender equality and regenerative urban development. Mixed by the New York Times among the "most advanced Belgrade architects", Maja is the founder of the architectural studio Remiks and Mikser organization, and the creative director of the Mikser Festival devoted to sustainable development and design. As an architect and urbanist educated at the Columbia University in New York, Maya is launching projects for the revitalization of industrial facilities and areas with cultural content such as Mikser House in Belgrade and Sarajevo; it advocates participatory urban practices with the participation of citizens and the application of solutions based on elements of nature in cities. For projects of urban revitalization and involvement of citizens in the planning process, she received the Architecture Salon Award in Belgrade and the awards of the Lucille Smyser Lowenfish Memorial Prize and the Kinne Fellows Memorial Prize awarded by the Columbia University.

Under the guidance of Maja, the initiative of the Mikser collective to launch the social center Refugee Aid Miksaliste was awarded the European Citizenship Award 2016 and the European Movement for Europe Contribution Award. Maya is co-founder of the Women's Architectural Society, founder of the regional platform Young Balkan Designers, and the Balkan Designer Network engineer dedicated to the development and international promotion of local and regional young talents and manufacturers in the field of sustainable design and products.

Maja is working intensively with UN Women's Offices and United Nations Development Program UNDP on projects linking the improvement of the quality of life of all citizens and the development of urban culture with measures of positive climate change and a circular economy.
